Eye Health in Sports and Recreation | GT Sunglasses

Eye Health in Sports and Recreation

(From Eye Smart Site)

Tens of thousands of sports and recreation-related eye injuries occur each year. The good news is that 90 percent of serious eye injuries are preventable through use of appropriate protective eyewear.

The risk of eye injury can vary depending on the activity. Make sure the level of eye protection you or others in your family use is appropriate for the type of activity. Regular eyeglasses do not offer proper eye protection.

High-Risk Sports

For all age groups, sports-related eye injuries occur most frequently in baseball, basketball and racquet sports, such as tennis, squash, etc.

Boxing and full-contact martial arts pose an extremely high risk of serious and even blinding eye injuries. There is no satisfactory eye protection for boxing, although thumb-less gloves may reduce the number of boxing eye injuries.

In baseball, ice hockey and men?s or ladies lacrosse, a helmet with a polycarbonate (an especially strong, shatterproof, lightweight plastic) face mask or wire shield should be worn at all times. It is important that hockey face masks be approved by the Hockey Equipment Certification Council or the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

Baseball Protection

Protective eyewear with polycarbonate lenses?should be worn for sports such as

basketball, racquet sports, soccer and field hockey. Choose eye protectors that have

been tested to meet the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards or SAI GLOBAL

which incorporates Standards Australia & Standards New Zealand. See the GTSL Sunglasses Protective Eyewear Site for additional details. If you already have reduced vision in one eye, consider the risks of injuring the stronger eye before participating in contact or racquet sports, which pose a higher risk of eye injury. Check with your ophthalmologist (Eye M.D.) to see if appropriate eye protection is available and whether or not participating in contact or racquet sports is advised.

Other Risky Leisure Activities

While sports account for a particularly high number of eye injuries, they are by no means the only hobby that poses a risk to your sight. According to physicians surveyed for the 2008 Eye Injury Snapshot conducted by the AmericanAcademyof Ophthalmology and the American Society of Ocular Trauma, more than 40 percent of patients treated for eye injuries sustained at home were involved in home repairs, yard work, cleaning and cooking. Use common sense and err on the side of caution, whatever the activity.

  • Consider the risk of flying debris or other objects during activities and wear appropriate eye protection.
  • Remember that eyeglasses aren?t sufficient protection.
  • Be careful during activities or games involving projectiles and other sharp objects that could create injury if in contact with the eye. For example, the U.S. Eye Injury Registry indicates that fishing is the number one cause of sports-related eye injuries.
  • If you wear contacts or eyeglasses, pack a back-up form of vision correction during bike trips or other activities where you could lose or shatter a lens.

If an eye injury occurs, see an ophthalmologist or go to the emergency room immediately, even if the eye injury appears minor. Delaying medical attention can result in permanent vision loss or blindness.

On-the-Field Visual Test Helps Diagnose Concussions in Athletes

About 3.8 million Americans sustain sports-related concussions each year, so a quick, reliable screening test would be useful on the sidelines, to keep injured athletes from returning to play too soon, and off the field to help physicians more effectively diagnose, treat and rehabilitate patients with concussions. An on-the-field visual test can help.

How should we craft a policy allowing us to refuse to consider ...

Q. Our company doesn?t want to consider applicants who send in unsolicited r?sum?s. We are trying to come up with a legally sound definition for ?applicant? so we can write an official policy. Any suggestions?

A. You can adopt a policy that says you do not consider applicants who are not applying for a specific job opening, provided that you apply that policy consistently. You can also decline to consider applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the job.

If you are a federal government contractor and you accept online applications, you should use the definition of Internet applicant formulated by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs: The individual submits an expression of interest in employment through the Internet or related electronic data technologies; the contractor considers the individual for employment in a particular position; the individual?s expression of interest indicates the individual possesses the basic qualifications for the position; and the individual at no point in the contractor?s selection process prior to receiving an offer of employment from the contractor, removes himself or herself from further consideration or otherwise indicates that he or she is no longer interested in the position.

Police: Woman says man called from Ark. squad car

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) ? The girlfriend of a man who was fatally shot in the back of an Arkansas patrol car told an investigator that he called her from the car and said he had a gun with him, police said Wednesday.

Jonesboro police offered those and other new details in a four-page statement about the investigation into the July 28 death of 21-year-old Chavis Carter. The death was ruled a suicide in an autopsy report released earlier this week.

Carter's girlfriend also told the investigator that Carter said he loved her and that he was scared, according to the police statement, which did not identify the woman. Phone records showed Carter made two calls, at least one of which was from the back of the patrol car, police said.

Benjamin Irwin, a Memphis, Tenn., lawyer representing Carter's family, said Wednesday that he was reviewing the latest information from police.

"I think the critical points still remain that this young man was in police custody," he said. "He lost his life at a time when they had a responsibility and duty to protect him."

Police have been facing criticism since they said officers searched Carter twice but didn't find a gun before he was fatally shot in a patrol car. Race is also an issue in the case because Carter was black and police have said the two officers who stopped the truck he was in are white.

The police statement said there appears to be no doubt that an officer missed the gun when he initially patted Carter down.

"It is presumed that Carter secreted the gun in the rear of the car after the pat-down but before the cuffing and second search," the statement said.

The statement said it was meant to be "a brief preliminary investigative summary" and noted that the investigation into Carter's death isn't complete. However, the statement said evidence and witness statements support the medical examiner's conclusion that Carter killed himself.

Spokesman Sgt. Lyle Waterworth didn't respond to an email or phone message seeking further comment.

Police also said they tracked down a man from a video on Carter's phone who said he sent Carter a text message asking him to bring him a gun shortly before his run-in with the officers. That man also said Carter was involved with a drug deal involving 4 ounces of marijuana, police said.

Police have said officers found marijuana on Carter when they searched him. The autopsy report also said he tested positive for meth and other drugs.

The police statement also said blood spatter on Carter's right hand showed his hand was close to the contact wound on his right temple. Blood was also on a rear passenger door of the patrol car, police said.

Officers and bystanders said the patrol car doors and windows were closed and that the officers weren't near the car until Carter was found, police said.

"This virtually eliminates any possibility that the fatal wound was caused by any weapon other than the one recovered in the rear of the vehicle and that its discharge was caused by Carter," police said in the statement.

The Arkansas state crime lab confirmed Wednesday that it did not perform gunshot residue testing on Carter, saying it doesn't do that kind of analysis on victims of homicides or suicides.

The confirmation came after Jonesboro Police Chief Michael Yates told The Associated Press that the department had requested the testing but that it wasn't done because of the agency's policy.

The lab's chief criminalist, Lisa Channell, said the testing can indicate whether a person was in an environment with gunshot residue, but "it cannot tell you whether the person pulled the trigger or not."

The crime lab's policy is not new. A 2001 memo sent to law enforcement officers said being in close proximity to a gun when it's fired can lead to positive gunshot residue test results and that negative gunshot residue results don't mean someone didn't fire a gun.

Still, Irwin questioned why the test wasn't conducted.

"To me, that's horrible," he said.

Police previously released video recorded from dashboard cameras the night of the shooting, but the footage didn't appear to show when officers found Carter slumped over and bleeding in the backseat of a patrol car as described in a police report.

Police said there were problems with the audio and video that explain the absence of a gunshot or noise on the recordings.

Irwin, Carter's family's lawyer, didn't buy that explanation.

"These things are crystal clear from a reception standpoint and from a functioning standpoint," he said. "And then they just malfunction for three minutes when this young man lost his life? I am just not ready to accept that as the answer."

The police statement came out less than an hour before Carter's mom marched with the Rev. Jesse Jackson and other supporters in Jonesboro.

"We hope that people concerned about justice, white and black, would find some common ground as we pursue this case of justice," Jackson told reporters in Memphis, Tenn., hours before the Jonesboro march. "We simply want justice and fairness in the land. ... We are convinced the explanations given so far are not credible ones."

Mothers Who Know: Kids Are Back in School: Now Let Me Explain

Today has been a?very surreal kind of day!? The kids all went back to school.? I am happy about that and sad.? Before you get all excited, let me explain!

A couple of days ago I wrote a short, "tongue-in-cheek" kind of post about the kids going back to school and me, being oh, so ready for the business of summer to end.? I love change and I love a good schedule.

Completely unexpectedly, I received a comment from a home-school mom who was less than thrilled with my perspective.? She let me have it, and boy did she!???It was such a negative blogging experience, that I decided to delete that post, in case you went looking for it. : )

I don't want to be misunderstood again...so let me explain.

I feel there is some kind of?"Us against Them"?theme going on out there in the home-school vs. public-school mom world.?Let me just say: ?It doesn't have to be that way AT ALL.? This is not a competition.? We are all mothers, aspiring Mothers Who Know, I might add.? We are on the same team!

Whether you have chosen to home-school, use the public schools, go to a private school, or any other type of school...that is YOUR choice.?I trust you.? I think we as mothers, only want to do what is best?for?the?children that God has given us.??Each child has ?a different plan.? You are their mother, and you will do what is best for your family situation.? If you follow what you feel is right, it will be the right choice.

I personally have chosen NOT to home-school.? That is not to say, that, that choice won't change in the future.? It could!? But, as for right now, we are a public school family.

With that being said,?lets clear up some stereo-types about public school moms:

  • We love our children and love being around them.? We have not chosen public schools because we want "to get rid of" our children or don't enjoy their company.
  • Summer is not "an excuse" for us to?be done with all ?order and structure in our lives.? Our children still have to do work, and still have plenty of responsibilities.? We?actually have two kinds of schedules: the summer schedule, and the school-year schedule.?Motherhood still happens.
  • When the school year comes around, we are excited for the change in routine.? Our children are excited to see their friends, meet their new teachers, and start a new school year with all the excitement and hope of it being their best year yet.?
  • If we cry at seeing our children leave for school that first day, those are mixed tears.? They are tears of happiness and sadness at seeing our children growing up so fast.
  • Our children love going to public school with all that is has to offer.
  • We do not feel we are better or worse?at mothering?than home-schooling moms. There are as many different kinds of mothers out there as kinds of jelly-beans in a jar.
  • We are also Mothers Who Know, choosing what is best for our family.?
? Let's work together to get ?rid of stereo-types on either side and just wrap our arms around one another to support each other in the hardest yet most rewarding calling we have.?

We are all mothers!

Here's the Samsung Galaxy S3 extended battery from Seidio

Galaxy S3 extended battery 3500 mAh

?A Galaxy S3 extended battery at 3500 mAh is bound to be big - but is it too big?

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of the slickest, slimmest phones around. Of that there should be little disagreement, no? And the battery life, at 2100 mAh, isn't anything to sneeze at, either, given just how slim and sleek it is.

So what's the year's hottest phone going to look like with a 3500 mAh monster strapped to its back? Behold, Seidio's extended battery for the Galaxy S3.

So, yeah. It's got that big hump that we're used to from Seidio's monster-sized extended batteries. And it certainly looks like it'll completely change the feel of the device, as well. Oh, and there's no NFC yet, though that's coming in a future model.

Any takers?

(AP) ? A federal investigator said Wednesday that a coal train that derailed in Maryland was going the authorized speed of 25 miles per hour with the engineer-in-training at the controls before the fatal accident.

Investigators were checking videos, track conditions and maintenance records to learn whether two young women sitting on a railroad bridge over the town's main street contributed to the Monday night crash or if their presence was just a tragic coincidence.

National Transportation Safety Board investigator Jim Southworth wouldn't speculate on the cause of the derailment.

"This is just not the time for any kind of analysis," he said Wednesday. "This is purely fact-finding."

So far, investigators have determined the emergency brakes were applied automatically ? not by the three-man crew ? on Monday around midnight, but they don't know why the train jumped the tracks.

Southworth said the train's two locomotives did not derail. Investigators planned to remove the tracks from the crash site and reassemble them in a nearby parking lot for inspection.

Cleanup of area continued Wednesday. Nineteen of the 21 derailed cars had been removed, but it could be another two days before the area is clear for traffic through the narrow historic area. Southworth called the work a "well-orchestrated industrial ballet."

Tweets and photos from the two 19-year-old college students chronicled some of their final moments together as they enjoyed a summer night together before they were to headed back to school.

"Drinking on top of the Ellicott City sign," read one tweet. "Looking down on old ec," read another.

Accompanying photos showed their view from the bridge and their bare feet, one with painted blue toenails, dangling over the edge. "Levitating," read the tweet.

The women were sitting on the edge of the bridge with their backs to the tracks as the train passed a few feet behind them, Howard County police said, and their bodies were found buried under coal dumped from the train cars. Authorities said they needed to do autopsies before their cause of death could be determined.

The victims were identified as Elizabeth Conway Nass, a student at James Madison University in central Virginia and Rose Louese Mayr, a nursing student at the University of Delaware.

The railroad is easily accessed from the picturesque downtown of Ellicott City, which is about 15 miles west of Baltimore, and generations of young people have played and partied along the tracks.

The original stone bridge was built around 1830, according to Courtney Wilson, executive director of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum in Baltimore. He said it was replaced after an 1868 flood with an iron truss bridge that provided wider lanes for vehicles passing beneath. That structure was replaced around 1930 with the current steel span.

Shelley Wygant of the Howard County Historical Society said the edge of the bridge on which the women sat, facing the Patapsco River, is at least two feet from the single set of railroad tracks. The side of the bridge facing the town has a wider platform, she said.

Still, "I don't think anybody would want to be up there when trains go by," Wygant said.

"I've been up there to hang banners and things like that and thinking, 'I hope a train doesn't come,'" she said.

Nass and Mayr were graduates of Mt. Hebron High School in Ellicott City, where they were on the dance team, and planned to finish college in 2014, according to friends and their Facebook pages.

One of Nass' sorority sisters, Donya Mossadeghi, called her "a joy to talk to" and someone who "would never say a bad thing about anybody." Nass made the dean's list in the fall of 2010 and 2011, according to a university spokesman, and another friend said she was studying special education.

Tori Mace, of Ellicott City, knew Mayr through mutual friends. "She was really fun, really friendly," Mace said.

A person who answered the telephone at Nass' home declined to comment, as did a family member who answered at a number listed for the Mayr family.

The pictures and tweets from Mayr were no longer publicly available, but friends confirmed they were hers and police said they were aware of the posts and looking into them.

Benjamin Noppenberger was getting ready for bed late Monday when he and his wife heard what sounded like gunshots. They waited about 10 minutes before going outside.

"We could see all the cars that fell over. I just saw catastrophe," he said.

Alpha Hunter James Clayton on Investing in Media and ...

??Over the next five years, global spending on entertainment and media is projected to rise from $1.6 trillion in 2011 to $2.1 trillion in 2016, a 5.7 percent compound annual advance?.? (PwC?s Global Entertainment and Media Outlook 2012-2016).

This is an astonishing figure, but when you consider the breadth and depth of media, it?s easy to see why.? Alongside food, clothing and energy- media is one of the few industries that pervades into the lives of practically every consumer on the planet- delivering content ranging from news to gaming, films, TV programmes and more.? As technology has advanced, the number of channels (and types of content) has grown meaning that investors can now access everything from global hits (such as the film Avatar which grossed over $2.7billion in cinemas alone from an investment of around $300million) to niche events and productions targeting specific communities.

Entertainment and media are growing and globalising.? Media assets which once would have only been shown or experienced in their country of origin are now global instruments, which can be exploited in markets worldwide.? Previously developing economies such as India, Latin America and Asia have also become incredible consumers (and producers) of media.?? These fundamentals represent a powerful case for investors.

To learn more, I spoke to James Clayton, CEO of Ingenious Investments who- since their debut in 1998- have raised and invested in excess of $10bn in the media and entertainment sectors.? Their portfolio includes films such as Avatar, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, X-Men: First Class and TV productions such as Law and Order UK, Monroe and Foyle?s War.

James is the Chief Executive of Ingenious Investments with overall responsibility for the company?s fund raising and investment activities across its target sectors of media, clean energy, sport and leisure. James?s previous roles at the company include Business Development Director and Chief Operating Officer. ??James qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and prior to joining Ingenious in 2003, worked for a leading media and entertainment law firm specialising in media finance.

AllAboutAlpha: What is the case for investing in media?

James Clayton: Our model is very much investing in media cash-flows.? We don?t take positions in quoted media stocks, as that introduces too much exposure to volatile equity markets- and media tends to get hammered more than other sectors when the markets have any degree of turbulence in them.

We tend to invest in project cash-flows.? This means you?re not correlated to the market.? That, combined with growing global demand for premium content- powered by the rise of middle-classes in emerging markets, and advances in technology that make it easier for us as consumers to enjoy content where, when and how we want to do- all signal upside.

We?re platform agnostic.? People tend to see the market in terms of discrete sectors such as film, TV, music, video games, live and so on.? We like to invest in content you can view many different ways- and that gives us depth and diversity within our portfolio.?? It?s also important to make sure that you do invest on a portfolio basis? content is a very hit driven business- and you still need the hits to pay for your misses!

Looking at Film:

AllAboutAlpha: What makes a film investable?

James Clayton: The first thing I?d say is to quote an old saying by William Goldman which is, ??in this business, nobody knows anything?? ? otherwise it would be sure fire and completely fail-safe!

On features we look for two key things.? Firstly, the track record of the film making team- next, that the project has access to the best possible distribution.? When we?re investing in independent films, we look for market tests in the form of pre-sales.? This demonstrates that there are end-buyers for it.? When we?re investing in studio-films, it?s about finding the closest possible alignment with the interests of the studio itself and making sure we?re accessing the economics of studio distribution.

AllAboutAlpha: What are the risks associated with film investment, and how do you mitigate them?

James Clayton: It?s primarily performance risk.? The great thing about film is that the capital structures allow you to pick where you want to be on the risk-return spectrum.? If you?re looking for lower risk, you can sit where the banks used to- advancing money against known collateral (usually in the form of tax-credits or pre-sales).? If you want more risk- but equally more return- you give yourself more exposure to the film?s performance, and how it plays in the markets.

AllAboutAlpha: Looking at projects in your portfolio such as ?Avatar,? what made you choose them- and how did they perform against expectations?

James Clayton: One of the common ingredients in some of our big studio successes is our studio partner 20th Century Fox.? In our early days of film investing, we worked with a broad mix of studios.? Through no particular intent, it just happened that the relationship that we built with 20th Century Fox- and the success we had with them- earmarked them as a fantastic partner.? They take a very long term view to looking after their financing partners because they realize that co-financing is a very important part of sharing risk and reward- and it?s not easy money to come by!

On projects, we run a various different scenarios as there are a number of factors that can affect a film?s performance.? We commit before a frame of the film is shot- at the point at which there?s a script and creative elements in place.? A lot can happen in the 18 months to 2 years before the film is shown to an audience.? You?re talking about equity style returns, and a multiple return on the capital at risk

When it came to Avatar? James Cameron?s track record was just second to none- phenomenal.? The creative vision he had to that film, tied to Fox?s commitment in the movie and the advances in technology made it seem- at the time- quite an easy decision.

Looking at TV

AllAboutAlpha: What makes a TV production investable?

James Clayton: You?re still looking for the same basic ingredients as you see with film.? The track record of the producer, access to distribution, and your own assessment of how well the piece of content will perform internationally.? That latter element is what you look for to drive your higher return- this ability to cross-over and travel across borders.

AllAboutAlpha: What methodologies do you apply when investing in TV productions?

James Clayton: TV has a very different risk-profile to film.? When you?re investing, for example, in a studio movie- you are taking equity risk.? Then it?s all about how the film performs.? TV, particularly in the UK, has a much lower risk economic model for investors.?? We will commit at the point where a producer brings us a program that has a commission behind it from a broadcaster.? Under the terms of trade for the UK, that broadcast commission will often account for a large proportion of the budget- so to a certain degree, provided the producer can make and deliver that program on time and on budget (which of course, is where your due diligence comes in?)- your financial exposure is mitigated.

You do have some risk about how that program will perform in ancillary markets, but that?s what attracts us.? The demand for premium content globally is increasing, and the quality of UK prime-time drama has improved leaps and bounds in the past decade.? It?s a very valuable commodity to invest internationally.

Q: Has the number of channels and competition in the market affected your returns from TV?

James Clayton: The demand for content is there, and it?s growing.? The digital world has become the ?new norm?.? There are new entrants commissioning content all the time.? YouTube recently started to commission their own content for the first time.? The great thing about TV versus film is that it?s very suitable to mobile forms of consumption.

Looking at TV

AllAboutAlpha: What is the case for investing in live entertainment?

James Clayton: Live entertainment is an experience you simply cannot pirate or replicate- and that makes it unique.

The UK festival market has been expanding tremendously.? Ticket revenues for the marketplace are up 20% in2010 and in 2010/11 our own portfolio ticket sales were up some 60%.? It?s a combination of technology and increased sales opportunities for promoters that driving revenues.

Many investors don?t realize this sector is available to them.

AllAboutAlpha: What are the risks associated with live entertainment, and can you mitigate them?

James Clayton: One of the biggest risks is the sector overheating.? There has been a 16% rise in the number of festivals, and while new events will come and go- those that can identify consumer needs, resonate with a niche and an audience- will flourish.? It?s a sector that?s been outperforming equities.

To give you an example from our live VCT fund.? If an investor had put a ?1 into that fund 5 years ago, it would be worth ?1.30 today.? That?s certainly not the case if you had put a pound into the FTSE 5 years ago!? Another one of our private equity funds made a 9x return on its exit from a live entertainment venture called Cream which we sold to Live Nation a few months ago.

While it?s our job to make sure we pick the right partners? the fundamentals of this market remain strong.

Looking at the future

AllAboutAlpha: What do you see as the big sector opportunities in the future?

James Clayton: Content, content, content.

It?s that ongoing demand for content that drives the market.? Whether it?s mobile, gaming or otherwise- it falls under the same bracket.? All you have to do is look at the project growth in each sub-sector of media, whether it?s film, gaming, eBooks? it?s huge.

From a venture capital standpoint, going beyond pure content- it?s a great time to be investing in UK creative industry companies ? why? because it?s the recessionary vintages that make the best wines!

What does this mean for investors and risk managers?

Entertainment and media have typically been seen as high-risk areas for investors, but as James explains- there are solid ways of controlling risk exposure, and generating significant returns.? Like most sectors, entertainment and media require an appreciation of the ?asset? and underlying market- but luckily- there are few people on the planet who aren?t consumers of media, and so there is naturally an appreciation for what you are putting your money into.

For risk managers, the models applied to quantifying exposure in an investment may not work as intended when deploying them in this sector. While one can quantify the previous success of a director and production team- and quantify the value of distribution- the fact is, the ultimate risk is that the finished product is not something which engages the consumer, and that?s a very tough nut to put into numbers.? In this sense, while risk managers can create parameters by which the investment is seen as good value or not- they must defer to their human side to determine whether it?s a good investment.

Ultimately, media and entertainment is a sector with strong fundamentals- and with a real growth opportunity.? That?s rare in this current market, and a reason for investors to take note.

How to Grow Your Business with Inbound Marketing | Business 2 ...

b2b inbound marketing resized 600One of my favorite quotes about inbound marketing is from Guy Kawasaki, the Silicon Valley venture capitalist, best-selling author and former Apple executive:

?If you have more money than brains, you should focus on outbound marketing. If you have more brains than money, you should focus on inbound marketing.?

Inbound marketing is a burgeoning area of marketing that focuses on attracting prospective customers online with valuable content, and then converting them into leads. Inbound marketing tactics include the use of blogs, social media, e-books, white papers, search engine optimization and webinars. In essence, inbound marketing is all about earning your prospect?s attention.

Outbound marketing includes the more expensive, traditional, interruptive marketing tactics, such as advertising, telemarketing, direct mail, spam email and trade shows.

David Meerman Scott, author of ?The New Rules of Marketing & PR? describes outbound marketing as where one must ?buy, beg or bug their way in? to a prospect (via paid advertising, issuing press releases or paying commissioned sales people).

The reason for the growing success of inbound marketing and the decline of traditional outbound marketing is because of dramatic changes in the way people buy.

Because of technology, consumers are increasingly able to tune out marketing messages. Examples of the technology that enables consumers to avoid unwanted marketing messages include DVRs, caller ID, satellite radio, iPods, email spam filters, Internet ad popup blockers, RSS readers and ?do not call? lists.

Just a few years ago, when a customer wanted product information, soon into their buying research they would need to contact the seller. Then, the buyer became a lead and the seller, who controlled most of the product information, could exert control over the sale.

Now, a buyer can thoroughly research your company or product online and avoid your sales person until they are ready to buy. An example is a car buyer who thoroughly researches her purchase (costs, options, car reviews) and might know more about the product than the salesman. The same applies to business-to-business sales.

As a result, marketers are finding traditional, outbound marketing to be increasingly less effective. A few points to consider:

  • 86 percent of people skip television ads.
  • 44 percent of direct mail is never opened.
  • 200 million Americans have registered their phone numbers on the FTC?s ?Do Not Call? list.
  • 91 percent of email users have unsubscribed from a company email that they previously opted into.
  • 84 percent of 25- to 34-year-olds have left a favorite website because of intrusive or irrelevant advertising.

In contrast, inbound marketing is on the rise, primarily because of its return on investment (ROI).

  • Inbound marketing costs 62 percent less per lead than traditional outbound marketing.
  • The amount of money spent on company blogs and social media doubled in the last year.
  • 57 percent of businesses have acquired customers through their company blog and 42 percent through Twitter

The inbound marketing process can be broken down into six steps:

  1. Develop a successful marketing strategy ? including goals, objectives, challenges, buyer personas, competitive analysis and a determination of ROI.
  2. Create and maintain a powerful website ? which is the hub of all your online marketing and lead generation. The site also needs to be mobile ready, search engine friendly and easy to update.
  3. Generate more traffic ? in order to increase the number of opportunities for visitors to turn into leads. Blogging, social media and search engine optimization (SEO) play a large role in boosting site traffic.
  4. Convert traffic to leads ? by creating attractive offers and calls to action that appeal to potential buyers at all levels of their sales journey.
  5. Convert leads into sales ? using lead intelligence to score, segment and nurture your leads (with email), you can continue to build stronger links with your prospects until they are ready to buy.
  6. Measure everything ? and then do more of what?s working and less of what?s not working. Analytics to measure include site traffic, SEO, your blog, social media and email.

Will outbound marketing go away? Probably not. But the power it has enjoyed for the last 75 years will continue to decline and be overshadowed by inbound marketing.

Jennifer Lopez Releasing 3D Concert Film

FRANCESCO DEGASPERI/AFP/Getty Images

Jennifer Lopez said she wanted to focus on her film career when she departed American Idol last month, and it sounds like she's doing just that.

Her manager, Benny Medina, told Extra TV on Saturday that the pop singer is currently filming for a 3D concert film, which will focus on "the last few years in Jennifer's life as she faced big changes."?

Following in the footsteps of Justin Bieber (Never Say Never) and Katy Perry (Part of Me), the film has the potential to earn box office gold with a 3D look at JLo's sold-out tours with Enrique Iglesias, her two-season stint judging American Idol and -- of course -- tumultuous divorce from Marc Anthony, life with her four-year-old twins, and her young relationship with Casper Smart. Bieber's 2011 3D film has grossed $98 million worldwide; Perry's 3D documentary, which was only released last month, has already grossed more than $30 million worldwide.

Medina told Extra that JLo's film will be called Dance Again, the title of her upbeat track with Pitbull and her world tour. According to her manager, the title reflects Lopez's ability to get back up and "dance again" after life throws her curve balls. ?

Daytrading, Stock Trading, Investing and Forex Trading ? Myths ...

This lets you simply invest accordingly once the programme finds a good trading opportunity in order that you can make the money from the stock exchange that you need and safely at that, but do it on your own timetable and on your own time. Many thousands of traders are welcoming stock trading Bots to do the rational work for them. There are some blinding stock-trading robots out there which are rapidly changing the way that pro traders perform their analysis, also, so here is how it's possible to find one of the very finest of the finest. Personally I would recommend that you go with one of the low-priced share centered trading Bots. The nice thing about the stock trader software is the undeniable fact that they're programmed to recognise the trends and warn you of which stocks are probably going to be good to make an investment in.

* There are new technologies out there now that will seriously increase the chances for successful stockmarket dealing. They also are comparatively cheap and convenient to use. If you're think about making an investment in a stockmarket dealing software then it might be to your benefit to learn all you are able to about the numerous type and the arguments of every one before purchasing one. Think about this eventuality 2 months on, that job was now simply a memory and he was spending his days chatting to ship yards about the ideal ship and catching up on everything he'd been avoiding.

Life was good! Then, the bull market that had been in place for a period of time unexpectedly turned. Volatility was high and even seasoned traders had to put things in place to guarantee they stayed on track.

There are online coaching courses, reading material, and even programs which may let you practice your investment talents. There are numerous online techniques that can be employed to enhance your data and experience about the stock exchange. Trading software permits you to nearly invest and practice everything you have learned. When you select an internet agent, confirm they have these decisions open to you. The seriousness of education can't be very stressed, particularly for amateur stock dealing.

How To Profit With Herbalife USA | Internet and Email Marketing News

Herbalife USA distributors: Do you want to know how to become a top 3% earner?

If you seek to become a top earner, you must go well beyond your circle of friends and family.

You have to learn how to market- like a REAL business!

Read the rest of this article to learn several strategies top 2% earners are using to build large and lucrative businesses:

- Never Promote A Company Replicated Website Online

Here?s how networkers in companies like Herbalife USA usually try to market online: They use a replicated website provided by their company.

Next they mass-spam a bunch of people they know by email to shout about: The company?s breakthrough products? The revolutionary comp plan? The incredible management team. Ever heard that before? Next the marketer will link to their replicated website. And they?ll sit around and wait for people to sign up.

And NOTHING happens. What?s the problem here? Think about this: When you use a company-provided replicated website, do you seem any different from everybody else doing the same thing?

Why do you think anyone cares about your company, its products, the comp plan, etc? There is only ONE style of replicated website that is going to be effective. And it?s not the type network marketing companies like Herbalife USA give away.

The only replicated websites that are effective are those that are GREATLY customizable with your own headlines, videos and other elements. Almost 100% of top producers in companies similar to Herbalife USA use a website system that?s heavily customized. You?ve got to use a website that positions you as an authority, not as a drone in Herbalife USA.

- Attend Live Events

One of the most important activities to build your Herbalife USA business is to go to live events. Live events are those sponsored by Herbalife USA or others that bring network marketers and others together.

Live events have three critical benefits:

- Learning New Things: You will learn important new skills from the leaders who train at live events. You are going to get better at skills such as marketing, recruiting and sponsoring.

- Make New Alliances: The people you meet in Herbalife USA and in other companies can change your life. The friendships you make can endure for years. You can also develop joint venture alliances and other partnerships.

- Attitude And Focus: You will develop greater mental focus and your mindset will become more like a top producer when you attend events. That?s the biggest advantage you could create. You?ll get inspired by people who are similar to you but who are thriving in their Herbalife USA business. You?ll come away with the conviction you too can succeed.

It?s at live events where top producers are born. New people think it?s optional to go to live events. These are the people who say I can?t afford to go or I can?t spare the time. Not surprisingly, these are the same people who never seem to make money.

In contrast, I know people who went to live events when they were broke and had to sleep on the floor of someone else?s hotel room because they couldn?t afford a room. Now they earn more than $50,000 a month. Live events are too important to miss. So do you want to be a top producer? Or someone who never makes money?

- Be An Attraction Marketer

Network marketers in opportunities like Herbalife USA tend to run out of leads to talk to about their business. This is when these marketers become needy and give off a desperate vibe. The ideal solution to these issues is Attraction Marketing.

Attraction Marketing entails creating and promoting instructional content online that teaches network marketers how to grow their businesses. When you promote instructional content online, you establish yourself as an authority and leader. Positioning yourself as an expert makes recruiting people into Herbalife USA very easy.

Attraction Marketing is based on a few principles:

- Most people aren?t looking for a business venture to join. They are seeking a leader they can follow to help reach their goals.

- There?s no shortage of people on the Internet trying to promote companies just like Herbalife USA. Real leaders are rare.

- By nature people are drawn towards others than can help fix their problems.

- People aren?t interested in others that solely try to sell them stuff.

- By concentrating on helping people to solve their critical business problems, you drastically become more valuable.

- It?s critical to give freely first, before you receive. How much free content you put out, and how good the content is, will dictate the degree to which people see you as a leader.

as a result of your attraction marketing efforts, some people will find you and want to sign up for your Herbalife USA team. You never have to chase people again!

Florida Gators Recruiting: OL Josh Outlaw Decommits

Offensive lineman decommits from 2013 Florida Gators recruiting class.

Aug 19, 2012 - The Florida Gators lost a commitment from their 2013 class in the form of Josh Outlaw, an offensive guard from Lithonia, Ga., according to a tweet from ESPN's Derek Tyson.

Scout.com and 247sports.com each list Outlaw as a four-star prospect, with Rivals listing him at three stars. The 6-foot-4, 268-pounder out of Martin Luther King, Jr. High School had also been offered by Auburn, Arkansas, Clemson and East Carolina.

He leaves what has been shaping up to be an impressive 2013 class by head coach Will Muschamp. As Tyson also points out, Florida stands at 18 commitments for 2013, including two offensive lineman. Of five decommits so far, three have been Florida's decision, though apparently Outlaw's decommitment was his decision.

The Gators open the 2012 season Sept. 1 at home against Bowling Green.

Grizzlies, Capitals want to host the world

The Victoria Grizzlies are getting down to business on the ice with training camp starting Monday, but wasting little time attempting to attract it off the ice.

The Times Colonist has learned that both the Grizzlies and Cowichan Valley Capitals are throwing their support behind a planned bid to play host to the 2013 World Junior A Hockey Challenge. The bid is being spearheaded by Shauna Benson, the executive director of the South Cowichan Chamber of Commerce.

Tournament games, likely set for Nov. 4-10, 2013, would be proposed for both Bear Mountain Arena in Colwood and the Island Savings Centre in Duncan, with the Kerry Park Recreation Centre planned as a practice facility for teams.

The under-20 international tournament, which is sponsored by Hockey Canada, attracts six all-star teams, including Canada West and East representatives and would bring an economic spinoff to all regions involved.

?If all the municipalities come on board it will work,? said Benson. ?We?re trying to do this collaboratively.?

Many of the groups met for the first time Thursday and are slated to gather again Aug. 28 as they plot out a business plan with the help of SportHost. Benson is hoping to have a bid prepared by the end of September

The idea is the brainchild of Benson.

?I was actually thinking about 2014, but Hockey Canada said, ?Why not 2013?? ? said Benson, who was involved in the RBC Cup in Nanaimo in 1998.

As far as the World Jr. A Hockey Challenge is concerned, Canada West ? which featured Grizzlies centre Wes Myron last season ? is the defending champion and has claimed the title three times. The United States has won the other three (in consecutive years) since the showcase event was formed in 2006.

Sweden, Russia and the Czech Republic rounded out last year?s tournament in the new Langley Events Centre. This season, the World Jr. A Challenge is slated for Nov. 5-11 in Yarmouth, N.S.

?In the hockey community it is absolutely one of the top tournaments. It?s a must-attend,? said Scott McWilliam, the recently hired business consultant with the Grizzlies, who formerly worked with the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League and NHL Central Scouting.

?It?s a great opportunity from our players? perspective and we hope that a couple of our players would be considered for the selection process. It would be great for our fans and for us to get in on the ground floor for an unbelievable calibre of hockey,? added McWilliam. ?It?s great for the community and we are a part of that community.?

The World Jr. A Challenge has featured dozens of players currently playing in or drafted by the NHL, including last year?s No. 1 overall pick, Nail Yakupov of the Edmonton Oilers. More than 125 pro scouts and upwards of a dozen NHL general managers attend the event.

?A meeting was convened on Thursday to formally kick off the bid process,? said McWilliam, who gave huge props to Benson. ?She?s off to a flying start. There?s not a lot of time to get it done, but if we can get it done I think it will be ours, if we can make the numbers work.?

Canada West defeated Canada East 4-2 in the 2011 title game (which was broadcast on TSN) and a Canadian Junior A Hockey League prospects series ran in conjunction with the event. Wade Murphy and Braxton Bilous represented the Grizzlies in that two-game prospects series in Langley last season, which was also won by the West over the East.
