Causes and Treatments for Bleeding Hemorrhoids

Bleeding hemorrhoid is a medical condition that includes blood coming from the rectal area or anal region. It is usually caused due to the inflammation of the hemorrhoidal veins. Bleeding can be caused due to prolonged sitting or excessive pressure on the rectal veins, consumption of alcohol or too much caffeine.

Bleeding is quite common in both internal and external hemorrhoids which include symptoms such as itching, swollen veins, pain and bleeding due to excessive friction. Scratching the affected area can also cause bleeding. The blood spots are usually bright red in color, but if the color is darkened, it is important to consult a doctor immediately. Bleeding piles are a matter of concern than the non-ableeding ones.

Hemorrhoid Treatment

Bleeding hemorrhoids are treated in different ways.

There are many natural therapies to stop the bleeding. Herbal treatments include apple cider vinegar, grape seeds and so forth. There are many other home remedies which can help to reduce bleeding to a large extent. Changes in dietary plans also help to alleviate constipation and further complications. ?

Sclerotherapy is another hemorrhoid treatment which helps to stop the bleeding. In this non-invasive process, a chemical is injected into the anal cavity to reduce the inflammation, pain and bleeding.

Rubber band or ligation is another treatment that helps to stop the bleeding process. In the rubber band ligation procedure, the base of the hemorrhoid is covered with a small elastic band. This in effect thwarts blood supply to the area. Hemorrhoid consequently shrinks and within some days it suffers death.

The band generally comes out during bowel movements along with the dead hemorrhoids. One session of this procedure is not enough and two to four procedures may be required for complete removal of hemorrhoid. There can be side-effects like little pain, tightness and in some cases infection can also happen.

Most of the doctors seldom prefer to use these treatments rather than Hemorrhoidectomy as it causes more bleeding and longer recovery time. Surgical procedures are usually adopted by doctors during severe inflammation and pain.
