Jimmie Johnson engine trouble sends him to back of Sprint Cup field - NASCAR News | FOX Sports on MSN

Updated?Aug 18, 2012 3:56 PM ET

?

BROOKLYN, Mich.

Jimmie Johnson missed 45 minutes of the second practice Saturday morning at Michigan International Speedway as the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports crew changed engines on the points leader?s car.

?The guys saw something in warm up this morning, and we were trying to sort through it before practice started,? Johnson said. ?They took a deeper look at things right before practice started and decided to change it. We probably could have run some of this practice, but I think we had to change the engine regardless, but we didn?t want to oil the track or create an issue and crash our car.?

Johnson made three laps on his first run with a top speed of 195.122 mph during the second practice session. He made a second two-lap run just before the end of practice.

He returned for Saturday's second practice and ran 26 laps, posting the session's No. 2 speed behind Greg Biffle.

Due to the engine change, Johnson will have to start from the back of the field on Sunday.

Johnson has never won at Michigan. The team also changed engines on the No. 48 Chevrolet in June and finished fifth.

Dude Calls 911 With Pot Question, Gets Arrested

Question: If you were concerned about the legal implications of growing pot in your house, which you were already doing, would you call the authorities?

This dude did in perhaps the greatest 911 call of all time.

This recording isn't new, but is making the online rounds again this week, and for good reason. The dispatcher's questions and his responses are amazing.

What is your location? "Let's not get into that yet." Is the situation life threatening or an active crime in progress? "Crime in progress, possibly."

Combined with the police officer's interview at the end, this is one of the better local news videos you'll see. Well done, Robert. Well. Done.

    Quote

The five, who are all 40 or younger and entered Parliament at the last election, are publishing a new book in which they say that "lazy" Brits prefer a lie-in to hard work.
Due to be published on the eve of the Conservative Party election, the book, called Britannia Unchained ? Global Growth and Prosperity, also criticises the "baby boomer" generation for seeking to raise taxes for young workers to pay for their lavish pension pots.

What "lavish" pension pot. The mean the state pension, one of the lowest in Europe? FFS, workers in Malaysia work the same hours as us, and have about twice as many bank holidays. Oh, wait a minute, they must be talking about themselves. Have any of them done productive work in their short, pampered little lives?

    Bit of spin there.

You make two points. One: Lazy brits to blame. Two: taxes on workers paying for over-generous pensions.

The headline conflates the two to present a misleading conclusion which is not at all implied by the two points.

FWIW, both the points are misplaced. It's not so much lazy Brits themselves as the system that pushes them to laziness that's to blame. And the lavish pensions are rapidly converging with the basic state pension at age 67 or 68 for all but a lucky few.

    [edit: add pension age]

Here's an Idea I've been playing with and I am going to be shoot on here for saying it.

Imagine tomorrow everybody?s tax went up by ?100 a month.

My view is that all rents would have to come down by the same amount and house prices would have to fall because people haven't got the money any more.

The plebs having less money would hit the rich harder than the plebs.

Again if tax was cut by ?100 rents would go up and so would houses and swallow all the gains.

I can second that, except I don't smoke so put in far more time relative to my smoking colleagues. I also see a lot of foreign workers work long, long hours but their productivity is very low. Seems to be an attitude that as long as you are seen to be working long hours then your productivity can not be questioned.

Britons work the longest hours in Europe, clocking up unpaid overtime worth billions of pounds, according to a study published today.

Britain's long-hours culture is frequently a cause of stress, says the TUC report The TUC report said workers put in ?23bn of unpaid overtime last year, losing out on an average of ?4,800 each. The union organisation said people working for nothing were doing an average of seven hours and six minutes extra work every week. It calculated that if employees did all their unpaid work at the start of the year, the first day they would be paid would be February 23.

Walk down any high street during the day and see plenty of loafers wandering aimlessly around or buying crap. You just know they're all on benefits, hell most of the population are on benefits of some form. Single mums are the most prevalent, lazy scrotes spit out a couple of useless little turds and expect to get paid for the next 20 years. The wrong people are being encouraged to breed and that's why this country will continue to go down the toilet.

There are also a lot of people sitting on chairs, whinging in internet forums about other "idle" people!

Go and create some jobs for them then. Not exactly hearing factory owners crying out for workers, struggling to fill jobs.

Round these parts if you are unskilled/semi skilled its all part time, zero contract working tax credit stuff. No proper jobs at all.

I'm wondering how many more hand car wash places, this town can take!

If you are going to outsource all the work to China, and import cheaper labour, don't moan when there are loads of idle scroats around. They can't all be budding entrepreneurs like you!

That's only possible when the system and inflated cost of living doesn't price them out of work. It might be possible to create jobs that would pay them ?4 an hour for example but they wouldn't accept it even if they could.

Pets Of The Week: Patiently Waiting ? CBS Detroit

(Photo: Michigan Humane Society) Little Louise is patiently waiting for a forever home.

(Photo: Michigan Humane Society) Little Louise is patiently waiting for a forever home.

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) It?s not that they don?t want her around ? because one look at Louise and you?ll be hooked ? but the Michigan Humane Society is hoping not to have her around much longer.

Sweet Louise has been in a MHS shelter all summer, and they?re hoping this is her week to get a forever home.

The sweet 6-year-old tortoiseshell cat loves to rub up against your leg and give affectionate head butts. Louise has been at the Michigan Humane Society for more than 180 days and is desperately hoping for that someone special to take her home.

?Come meet her today ? you?ll be glad you did,? a MHS spokesman said.

See Louise and the rest of our pets of the week HERE.

North Korea lets women ride bicycles

    By Angus Walker, ITV News

In perhaps another sign that North Korean society is changing, Chinese media reported Friday that women are being allowed to ride bicycles for the first time for years.

Cycling for women was banned in 1996 because the activity wasn't regarded as sufficiently feminine by the male-dominated North Korean regime.

The apparent relaxation came as Kim Jung Un's powerful uncle, Chang Song-Taek, was in Beijing signing new deals to open up special enterprise zones on the Chinese border with North Korea.

Such zones already exist but haven't been developed to any great scale. The Chinese have long been trying to convince the North Koreans to reform their stagnant state controlled economy in the same way China did 20 years ago.

Chang?s visit may also pave the way for Kim Jung Un's first official trip to the Chinese capital.

There has been a series of recent changes within North Korea: Kim sacked his army chief, Kim's uncle signed the economic deal with China, there are more cars and advertising on Pyongyang's streets, the regime promised the people their livelihoods would improve and workers will soon be allowed to officially work in factories in China and send money home.

It is not clear why the female bicycle ban was reversed, but it does appear as though the wheels of change in North Korea are turning.
